GLADSTONE---The Gladstone Braves baseball team pouned out 11 hits and used three pitchers to subdue the Marquette Redmen, 10-4, Thursday at Don Olsen Field.
Hunter Garling drove in three runs and Jake Peterson and Lucas Weinert each had two hits for the Braves. Gladstone scored two runs in the first inning, added two more in the second, and then put the game away with a five-run fifth inning.
"We continued to hit the ball well," Braves Coach Don Lauscher said. "All in all, I thought we played really well, and we needed this heading into a long trip to Wisconsin this weekend.
"And I liked how we played defense. We shored that up. Just one error."
Ben Schwalbach pitched the first four innings to earn the win. He yielded four hits and one walk, striking out four batters along the way.
Nick Trudeau threw the next two innings, giving up two hits and two walks, and fanning two.
Brandon Cooper pitched the final inning, walking one batter but allowing no runs or base hits.Gladstone (12-4) is on the road again this weekend in Wisconsin.
The Braves will face the Peshtigo Bulldogs on Friday. Game time is 5:30 ET.
Gladstone then travels to Wausau on Saturday to take on D.C. Everest at noon ET, and Wausau West at 3:00 ET. All three Braves games will be broadcast live this weekend on WCHT-AM (600), and on-line at www.rrnsports.com.
