The Escanaba High School softball team faced stiff competition this weekend at the Poynette (Wis.) Jamboree. There were 50 teams there, the largest softball tournament in Wisconsin. The Eskymos beat DeForest, Wis., 10-3. But the girls lost to top-ranked Westosha Central, 7-2, and then had their rally fall short against Rice Lake, Wis., 8-7.
The Gladstone Braves did not play on Saturday, thanks to Mother Nature. The baseball team had its game against D.C. Everest and Rhinelander rained out. The softball team split a doubleheader with Traverse City St. Francis on Friday, winning the first game, 5-0, and losing the nightcap, 4-3.
