The U.P. Sportsplex has celebrated its grand opening. It is an indoor athletic facility featuring youth and adult leagues and training programs for golf, tennis, baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. Northern Michigan University graduate Jared Coreau made his National Hockey League debut for the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night. He played the third period in goal against the Chicago Black Hawks at the United Center. Coreau stopped all 11 shots that he faced.

The Escanaba Eskymos beat the Gladstone Braves, 5-1, in girls tennis on Tuesday at Pfotenhauer Park. The #2 and #3 singles matches were halted by rain and will be resumed on Friday in Gladstone. It's the second time this season that the Eskymos have beaten their Delta County rivals on the tennis court.
