A Bark River native has been given a job promotion within NASCAR racing. Greg Ives was named the crew chief for Junior Motorsports on Tuesday, which is owned by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Ives will oversee the Nationwide Series car driven by Regan Smith. The Kingsford High School hockey team dropped its season-opener Wednesday night to the Bay Port Pirates, 3-1, at the Mountain View Ice Arena. Ted Pietila scored Kingsford's only goal in the second period. The game was tied 1-1 in the third period before the Pirates from the Green Bay area scored twice to win the game. Bay Port outshot Kingsford, 15-3, in that third period. Kingsford goaltender Wes Poupore stopped 23 shots.
