Eskymos, Braves Eliminated In Wrestling Regionals
Delta County's high school wrestling teams ran into strong opponents in Lower Michigan Wednesday night, and both lost in the Team Regional Semifinals.
The Escanaba Eskymos lost to Bay City Western, 42-25, in the Division Two regional event in Mt. Pleasant. And the Gladstone Braves fell to Mason County Central, 42-24, in the Division Three regional meet in Roscommon.
BAY CITY WESTERN VS ESCANABA---The Eskymos were within 29-25 late in the match before Western won the last three matches to pull away.
Escanaba's winners included Devin Olsen, Kaleb Rahoi, and Teddy Peippo, all by pin. Travis Heller won on a tech fall, and Hunter Royer got a win on a decision.
Four Eskymos will compete in the Indiviudal Regionals this Saturday.
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL VS GLADSTONE---The Braves were overpowered by a strong Mason County team. Gladstone's winners were Jake Cronick, Jack Cronick, Bradley Gagnon, and Brandon Gagnon...all by pins. Nine Braves will compete in the Individual Regionals this Saturday, with hopes of advancing to the state finals in Auburn Hills.
NORWAY WINS D-4 REGIONAL---The Norway Knights won their second straight Division Four Regional Championship on Wednesday in Manistique.
The Knights topped Rogers City, 39-24, in the semifinal, then beat Westwood, 58-18, in the final. Westwood had eliminated Rudyard in the other semifinal, 42-32.
