Gladstone Wrestlers Win Kingsford Tourney Title
KINGSFORD---The Braves won the Kingsford Mariucci Invitational for the second year in a row on Saturday, finishing with 234.5 points. Norway was second with 185, Marquette took third with 118.5 points. Iron Mountain (115.5) was fourth and Ishpeming (59) was fifth. Bark River-Harris was ninth out of the ten teams with 40 points. For the Braves, 135-pounder Bobby Beauchamp won his championship match over Ishpeming's Jonathon Willey on a pin in 2:29. Braves' 160-pounder Brandon Gagon also won his title match by pin, in 3:32 pver Norway's Zavier Gonzalez. Gladstone's 189-pounder, Jake Cronick, also won his championship by pin. He bested Iron Mountain's James Christiansen in 1:18. And Braves heavyweight Tommy Bailey didn't need long to pin Mountaineer Jamie Collins: just 29 seconds. The Braves also had two champions who won on decisions. At 152 pounds, Jeremy Kadish outlasted Marquette's Brian Helmer, 2-0. And at 171 pounds, Gladstone's Bradley Gagnon topped Marquette's Ricky Baker, 5-1. Bark River-Harris got a championship at the 215 pound weight class, as Curtis Labadie defeated Gladstone's Jack Cronick, 7-2, in the final match. Two other Braves wrestlers made it to their respective finals, but lost, settling for runner-up. At 119 pounds, James Bruce lost a tight 8-5 decision to Iron Mountain's Alex Edwards. And at 125, Braden Williams was pinned by Iron Mountain's Jared Gauthier in the final. That happened in 3:52. Pictured above: Jake Cronick tops the podium for the Braves.
