ROUGH NIGHT: Norse Men Fall To Triton College
RIVER GROVE, Ill.---The Bay College Norse men's basketball team fell behind national powerhouse Triton College (Illinois), 15-0, Friday night, and couldn't recover, losing to the Trojans, 88-50, in suburban Chicago. "They threw that first punch," Nors Coach Matt Johnson said. "I didn't think we fought that very well. We came out flat, and they took full advantage. When you let them start feeling comfortable, and start feeling good about themselves, they're going to make you pay. Triton is incredibly athletic, they're long, and they're big, they've got shot-makers. They're well-schooled and well-coached. It's a heck of a basketball team." Sophomore Marcus Harris went down in pain while going for a loose ball, and Johnson fears it is a major Achille's tendon injury. Harris was the team's spark plug Friday night, taking two offensive foul charges and nailing a three-point basket. "Hopefilly, everything is OK, and we get him back, and I don't want to speculate," Johnson said. "Marcus is a very, very big piece of the puzzle for us. We don't definitely want to even think about playing without him. In his year and a half with us, in every game that he has played, there has been no player on the floor who has outworked him." Bay welcomed back Joe Gibbs, the Gladstone native who played on the Norse innaugural team three years ago, and after two years away from the game, was back on the court Friday in the new Blue and Black uniforms. He had a dunk-and-one, and a three-point basket, early in the game. But in the end, the Norse simply could not slow down the talented Triton team, which had eight slam dunks in the contest in front of an empty gym due to coronavirus restrictions. Norse sophomore Matt Wagner led the way in scoring with 13 points, including three triples. Ten different players scored for the Trojans. The two teams will play again Saturday afternoon at 4:30 EST. The game will be broadcast on Maverick 106.3 FM and radioresultsnetwork.com.
