The Escanaba High School competitive cheerleading team have won the Great Northern Conference championships for the first time. Escanaba had 425.14 points. The Kingsford High School hockey team won its opener at the Michigan Public High School Hockey Showcase on Friday. The Flivvers topped the Saline Hornets, 6-3, as Reid Pietila scored three goals. Meanwhile, the Marquette Redmen lost their opener to Farmington, 5-3, Thursday night. Marquette also lost to Farmington, 4-3, in Friday's game, in Trenton.

Wednesday was "Signing Day" for the nation's college football programs. Northern Michigan University signed 26 players, including Gladstone's Jared Vuksan, to National Letters of Intent.
