STEPHENSON---The Escanaba High School cross-country teams finished as Great Northern Conference runners-up on Thursday in Stephenson.
Marquette won the championship by a wide margin in the girls race, and the Redmen outlasted the Eskymos, 36-46, in the boys race.
BOYS GNC RACE: The Marquette Redmen had the top two runners, and that was enough to propel them to the team victory. Cole Riebolt won the race in 16 minutes, 22 seconds, while Lance Rambo was second in 16:45.
Escanaba's Eric Cousineau finished third (16:50), Stephenson's Connor Cappaert was fourth (16:56), and Menominee's Davey Luplow took fifth in 16:57.
Other Eskymos to medal included Joey Wolfe (seventh in 17:25), Jordan Ogren (ninth in 17:44), Gebe Ostrenga (13th in 18:16), and Tyler Hardwick (14th in 18:28).
Gladstone's top runner was Andy Olesak, who finished 23rd in 19 minutes, 33 seconds.
GIRLS GNC RACE: The Marquette Redettes had three of the top five runners to easily win the conference trophy. Amber Huebner was second overall in 19:09, Lindsey Rudden was third in 19:12, and Caylla Martysz finished fourth in 19:54.
Menominee's Kameron Burmeister was the conference champion, finishing five seconds ahead of Huebner in 19 minutes, four seconds.
Gladstone freshman Leigha Woelffer was fifth overall, finishing in 20:11.
As for the Eskymos, Amy Giese was the top runner, ending up in eighth spot in 23:32. Mikayla Bougie finished 11th and Callie Heller finished 12th for Escanaba.
