Eskymos Win UP Title; Braves Have Three Champs
 MARQUETTE---The Gladstone Braves had three Upper Peninsula wrestling champions during competition on Saturday in Marquette, but the Escanaba Eskymos used their depth to edge the Braves for the U.P. team championship, 210-175. Norway was third (128 points), St. Ignace fourth (106), and Iron Mountain fifth (99). There were 20 high school teams from across the Upper Peninsula at the event, which started at 8:30 Saturday morning and didn't wrap up until after 8:00 at night. Gladstone's first U.P. champion was James Bruce at 135 pounds. He pinned Iron Mountain's Corbin Henkel in 5:20 in the championship match. Next, it was the Braves' Jeremy Kadish at 171 pounds. He beat St. Ignace's James Cryderman, 8-3, in the final. And at 189 pounds, Gladstone senior Bradley Gagnon brought home the championship hardware with an early pin over Norway's Travis Moon (in 1:36). One of the best matches of the night came in the 145-pound weight class between Gladstone junior Bobby Beauchamp and Marquette sophomore Beau Caster. The match went right down to the wire, with Caster winning the title on a 2-1 decision. For the young Eskymos, it was a day of success, as five boys worked their way through their brackets into Saturday night's finals. At 112 pounds, Eskymo freshman Courage Krueger lost a 6-2 decision to Norway's Dylan Hoffart. At 119 pounds, Escanaba freshman Nick Onate was pinned by Gwinn senior Alex Anderson (in 1:18) in the final. Escanaba sophomore Denham Miron lost to Rudyard senior Jimmy Spener on an 8-3 decision in the 125-pound final. In the 160-pound final, Escanaba junior Teddy Peippo lost to Norway's Taylor Bonetti, 6-2. And in the heavyweight division, Eskymo junior Bryant Beem was pinned in 3:07 by Sault Ste. Marie's Chase Bouschor. Another young Eskymo, freshman Scout Wunder, finished third in his first U.P. Finals. He pinned Marquette's Cole Arnsten in the 135-pound third place match (2:56). And Escanaba sophomore Breyden Papineau finished third in the 152 weight class, beating Munising senior Robert Miles on a major decision, 14-4. Gladstone also had a third place finisher. Senior Jack Cronick, battling his way back from injury, managed to beat Escanaba's Mo Hocque in the 215-pound third place match. Bark River-Harris senior Curtis Labadie was his team's lone wrestler to place in the top six of his weight class. Labadie advanced to the 215-pound final, before being pinned by Sault Ste.
