Negaunee, Olivier Repeat As D1 Tennis UP Champs
KINGSFORD---The Negaunee Miners won another MHSAA Division 1 Upper Peninsula boys tennis championship on Wednesday, capturing first place in six of the eight flights. Marquette's Alec Olivier (pictured above) stayed undefeated at #1 singles with a dominating perfromance on his way to another U.P. championship. The Escanaba Eskymos finished second as a team, and Josh Grassel won the school's first U.P. title since 2012 with a three-set win at #2 singles. Negaunee won the team trophy for the third straight year with 22 points. The Miners won on Wednesday at #3 singles and #4 singles, and swept all four doubles flights. Negaunee has won the U.P. title in seven of the last nine years. Escanaba was in second place on Wednesday with 14 points. The Eskymos put boys in the finals in five of the eight flights.
