This story was written by NMU Sports Information

MARQUETTE---
A team effort that saw every player score powered the Northern Michigan University Men's Basketball team to 108-69 victory over Purdue University Northwest.  The 108 points are the most points scored against a Division II opponent since a 108-97 victory over Wayne State University in the 1993-94.

The Wildcats featured four players in double-figures, led by senior Naba Echols (Memphis, Tenn.)who tallied 20 points and also tied a career-high with nine assists.  Senior Isaiah Johnson(Whitefish Bay, Wis.) finished with 17 points.

Junior Myles Howard (Chicago, Ill.) tied a career-high with 12 points and also led the team with nine rebounds and added two blocks. Junior Sam Taylor (Chicago, Ill.) also finished with 12 points and had four assists, along with junior Kenton Mack (Algonquin, Ill.) and sophomore Alec Fruin(Beloit, Wis.).

The team posted 30 assists on the night for a season-high, besting the previous mark of 18 assists. From the field, NMU finished 65% shooting and was 50% from three-point range. The Wildcats were 66.7% from three in the first half and 75% from the field.

The team's defense allowed PNW just 26% from three-point range.

Taylor scored the first basket of the game followed by a Mack layup. Echols continued the early run with two free throws and a three-pointer to make it 11-0 before PNW scored their first basket at the 16:31 mark.

Howard answered with a free throw and Fruin added a layup to make it 14-2.  Fruin soon added a three and Johnson hit two jumpers before the Pride scored again to make the score 21-4 seven minutes into the game.

The guests scored five more points before Taylor made a three followed by two threes from junior Marcus Matelski (Boyne Falls, Mich.) and Howard then hit a jumper before PNW scored again and the score was 32-11 with 9:19 left to play in the first half.

Taylor answered a PNW three with his own make from behind the arc and made a jumper after two Pride free throws. Echols added to the lead with another three, followed by a Howard jumper and layups from Johnson and Taylor to push the lead to 46-16 when the guests scored with five minutes left to make the score 46-18.

Howard answered with a jumper, but PNW responded with a basket of their own, which NMU followed with a Johnson three and Howard dunk. PNW added a layup and free throw, but NMU closed the half with threes from Echols and Johnson, layup from senior Max Prendergast (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and two free throws from Echols to make the score 63-26 at the half.

At the start of the second half, NMU was leading by 37 points.  PNW attempted to cut into the lead, but NMU outscored the Pride 45-43 on their way to a 108-69 win.

Redshirt freshman Troy Summers (Grayling, Mich.) added a layup at the 11:35 mark which made it 75-46.  A dunk plus a free throw from freshman Naseer Turner (Chicago, Ill.) a minute later moved the score to 81-47.

At the 7:46 mark, redshirt freshman Carson Wonders (Iron Mountain, Mich.) gave NMU 90 points when he made his first career three-pointer, making the score 90-51.

Redshirt freshman Marcus Krachinski (Perronville, Mich.) moved it to 96-53 with six minutes to play by hitting his first three of the game.

With the score 98-55, Summers hit a layup to give NMU triple-digits and a 100-55 lead. The team added eight more points while PNW also went on a run for a final score of 108-69.

The Wildcats improve to 7-1 on the year and are now 2-1 in the GLIAC. NMU returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. to take on new GLIAC foe University of Wisconsin-Parkside in the Berry Events Center in a game hosted by Peoples State Bank of Munising.
