Escanaba Tennis Team Gets Win, Tie, As Hail Falls
ESCANABA---The weather was frightful, but the Escanaba Eskymos managed to get nearly two tennis matches in before it became impossible to play any further. Escanaba and Munising played to a 4-4 tie, and then the Eskymos had a 5-0 lead over Iron Mountain when the last three matches had to be called off because of wind and hail.
Escanaba's #1 doubles team of Dave Fix and Jake Eastin won both of their matches against Iron Mountain and Munising. Also Dom Aos and Blake Hereau got two wins at #4 singles, as several other kids were missing for various reasons.
Mike Shields and Steve Wood got two wins on the day at #3 singles and #2 singles, respectively. John Brant also sealed a win for the Eskymos at #1 singles. "This was the worst weather day I've been involved in as a coach since I've been here," Eskymo Coach Jim Hansen said. "We were able to get some good experience today with some of our new and younger guys. We're making good progress. I thought Fix/Eastin, Shields, and Wood played really well today and came through. I'm proud of those guys." |
