SNAKEBITTEN AGAIN: Braves Fall To Esky In Five
GLADSTONE---For the third time in two weeks, the Gladstone High School volleyball team won the first two sets of a volleyball match only to lose the next three...and the match. This time, the Braves lost to the Escanaba Eskymos, 3-2, Thursday night in Gladstone. Gladstone also lost twice to Stephenson, 3-2, after jumping off to a 2-0 lead in both matches. It's a frustrating scenario for Braves Coach Liz Gendron, who has seen her girls outplay their opponents at times, only to lose at the end. Those flashes of excellent play also came during The Rock tournament last weekend, when the Braves rallied to tie Great Northern Conference leader Kingsford, 1-1. But Thursday's loss kept the Braves winless in dual meets so far this season. For Escanaba, the reverse has been true. The Eskymos won their second straight five-set match, after also beating Negaunee, 3-2, in Negaunee Tuesday night. The Eskymos are off until next Thursday (Sept. 22) when they host the Marquette Redettes. Gladstone travels to Clintonville, Wisconsin, for a tournament this Saturday. THURSDAY'S OTHER U.P.
