Gladstone Girls Win St. Francis Softball Tournament
TRAVERSE CITY---The Gladstone High School softball team won three games on Saturday to take the championship of the St. Francis Invitational in Traverse City. The championship capped a perfect weekend for the Braves, who beat the host St. Francis team, 3-1, on Friday. In Saturday's action, Gladstone topped Gaylord, 17-3, then beat Kalkaska, 2-1, and topped Petoskey, 5-2, to earn the championship. The Escanaba Eskymos played in an eight-team invitational in Sheboygan, Wis., on Saturday. The Eskymos lost their morning game to Oshkosh West, 3-1, then ran off a pair if shutout victories. Escanaba blanked Cedarburg, Wis., 7-0, and then dominatied Milwaukee Pius XI Catholic, 20-0. The Eskymos finished 2-1 at the event. The Marquette Redettes were in action downstate on Saturday. The girls topped North Muskegon, 11-1, and then they edged Boyne City, 3-2. The day ended for Marquette with a 5-4 upset loss to a fellow Upper Peninsula opponent: the Rudyard Bulldogs. |
