ROLLING ALONG: Rapid River Sweeps Sault High
SAULT STE. MARIE---The Rapid River High School softball team improved to 27-8 on the season with a doubleheader sweep on Friday in Sault Ste. Marie. The Rockets beat the Blue Devils, 1o-0, in five innings, in the opener, then won the nightcap, 11-2, in a game that went all seven innings. In the opener, Natalie Belanger pitched all five innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, and striking out ten batters. Lexi Trombley continued her hot hitting by going 4-for-4 with three of those hits being triples. She drove in four runs. Cecilia Pilon was 3-for-4 and scored two runs, and Richelle Vandeville also had three hits and three runs. In the nightcap, Brittany Schwartz threw all seven innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out seven batters. At the plate, she had a triple and a single. Vandeville had three more hits, and Pilon had two more hits. Tina Olson added two hits and three runs. "We continue to get some nice hits, and great pitching," Rockets Coach George Kanyuh said. Rapid River will host Calumet in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30. Then the Rockets head to Norway to face Stephenson in the districts next Friday. |
