Eskymos Win M&M Cross Country Border Battle
MENOMINEE----The Escanaba Eskymos have had a lot of success so far during this cross-country running season. And on Tuesday, the boys won the championship of an event they weren't even scheduled to be entered in.

Escanaba joined the field for the M&M Border Battle at the last minute, and ran away for the champsionship at the North Shore Golf Course in Menominee.

Escanaba had four of the top 20 finishers and won the event by 12 points over second place Luxemburg, Wis., 65-77. Menominee was third (85) and Marquette placed fourth (106). Gladstone finished in ninth place in the 13-team event, which featured 85 boys.

Escanaba's Andrew Stenberg was third overall in 17:20. Marinette's Austin Wright won the race in 16:53 and Kingsford's Daniel Kulas was second (17:14). Other Eskymos finishing in the top 20 included Eric Cousineau in ninth place (17:47), Jordan Ogren in 11th spot (18:04), and Gabe Ostrenga in 20th place (18:47).

Carney-Nadeau's Dionte Blahnik had a nice solo run, finishing 18th overall in 18:38.

Gladstone's four boys ran as a pack, and finished 45th (Andrew Olesak, 20:02), 46th (Chris Sedenquist, 20:12), 47th (Kyle Kleiman 20:13), and 48th (Derek Mayo, 20:17).

ESKYMO GIRLS FINISH 4TH, BRAVES GIRLS TAKE 5TH---In the girls race on Tuesday, there were 65 girls enetered and nine full teams (plus three schools that had incomplete teams). Luxemburg was the winner with 37 points, followed by Marquette with 43, and Menominee with 58 points.

The Escanaba Eskymos finished fourth with 92 points. Aimee Giese was the top finisher in sixth place (20:46). Aubree Peterson ended up 14th overall (21:39), Callie Heller took 22nd place (22:19) and Jordyn VanPortfliet was 23rd (22:25).

The Gladstone Braves finished in fifth place with 168 points. Josie Gardner was the Braves' top finisher (29th place, 22:49). Sam Sailer was 33rd in 22:58.

Marquette's LindseyRudden (19:04) and Calla Martysz (20:14) took the top two spots.
