Escanaba 9-10 Girls Open Districts With 18-8 Win
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Minor Little League All-Stars (age 9-10) scored ten runs in the second inning and cruised to a 18-8 win over Kingsford in the district tournament opener Sunday at Lemerand Park. Escanaba actually jumped to a 17-0 lead before Kingsford scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning on a bunch of walks and hit-battsmen. An RBI single by Mary Kay Tourangeau ended the game for Escanaba in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the first inning, Breliegh Reinhart had a two-run single as Escanaba took a 4-0 lead. Then 14 batters came to the plate in the second inning as ten runs crossed the plate. Reinhart had a three-run triple during that inning, and Clare Jacobson had a two-run double. Carley Trevillian had the only Kingsford base hit of the game. That was an RBI single during the fourth inning that also saw five runs come in on walks and two on HBP with the bases loaded. Landry Bray pitched the first three innings before walks did her in in that fourth inning. Reinhart came on to get the final three outs (she also walked one batters and hit two others). Escanaba faces Norway in the second round on Monday. Game time is 7:00. It will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and on-line at www.rrnsports.com. |
