MAIZE 'N BLUE WALK-OFF! Kingsford Wins Title

ESCANABA---The Kingsford Minor Boys (age 9-10) completed their comeback through the loser’s bracket with a dramatic 4-3 win over Escanaba in the District Ten championship game Tuesday night at Karl Dickson Field.

It was Kingsford’s third win in as many days, and second over Escanaba, after being no-hit in a 4-0 loss to Escanaba on Saturday.

Carter Steber ripped a shot to center field with two men on in the bottom of the sixth inning. The ball bounced off the glove, and the face, of the Escanaba center fielder, and the tying and winning runs raced home to score.

Kingsford advances to the state tournament in downstate Dexter on August 2.

Escanaba led, 2-0, after scoring twice in the top of the second inning.

Cooper Kreski’s RBI single put Kingsford on the board, and they tied the game an inning later.

In the fifth, Escanaba took a 3-2 lead when Nick Martinson drove home a run, but Kingsford got the big hit after a pair of Escanaba errors put two runners on base.

Jonah Denier started the game for Kingsford and threw 3 2/3 innings until he reached his 75-pitch count Mason Kreski finished up and gave up one run, but earned the win.

MiKaiden Hughes started the game and did not allow an earned run in four innings of work. Joey Garcia took the tough loss, giving up those final two runs which turned out to be unearned. Escanaba made six errors in the game. Kingsford made none.
