TOTAL DOMINATION: Grosse Pointe LL Wins Title
GLADSTONE---The Grosse Pointe Woods/Shores Little League Major Boys (age 11-12) completed a dominating performance on Wednesday, capturing a Michigan state championship with a 10-0 win over Dexter at the Gladstone Sports Park. The team from suburban Detroit hit two more home runs on Wednesday, giving it a whopping 20 for the six games in the 16-team event. The District Six champs helped the Gladstone tournament shatter all previous records for home runs, with a total of 49. It flew over the Howes Field scoreboard and landed on one hop near the Cannon Field bleachers, roughly 300 feet away from home plate. Wisinewski also had a long double. On the mound, Joey Randazzo was in complete control here, with the strikeout. He struck out the side in the third inning, and ended up throwing a five inning perfect game. Grosse Pointe outscored its opponents, 71-6, in the six-game trip to the state championship. Its toughest game was a 6-3 win over Rockford in the first pool play contest last Friday. Every other game had a victory margin of ten runs or more. Grosse Pointe will represent Michigan in the Great Lakes Regional in suburban Indianapolis, with its first game set for August 6th. The winner of that tournament advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Click the above headline to see photos and videos from Wednesday's game. |
